Excellent! Just about every food item we've had from pierce tavern has been great. We order from here about once a month and the food is always ready on time for pickup and doesn't take too long in the restaurant.
We walked into Pierce Tavern on a Friday night for a spontaneous date night and we had an amazing time!! The space was POPPINNN, both inside and outside! It's got rustic bar vibes mixed with sporty vibes. We were seated right away and the service was amazing! Their menu has a ton to offer from sandwiches and pizzas to burgers and pastas. We got the brisket grilled cheese with sweet potato fries and the caprese sandwich with truffle fries. The meat inside the grilled cheese was sooooo tender and juicy. The sandwich itself was crispy on the outside and did not get soggy from the filling at all, which was amazing! The sweet potato fries were classic - crispy, flavorful, and we asked for their buffalo sauce on the side which was INSANEELYY delicious! We asked for grilled chicken inside the caprese sandwich, which was a little underwhelming in my opinion. The meat did not taste or look fresh. The pesto, mozzarella, and tomatoes were very delicious and went perfectly with the sourdough bread! The truffle fries were AMAZING! Highly highly recommend!! We also got some tequila based mojitos, both of which were very refreshing and had a great punch of alcohol. Overall, it was a very good experience and we would definitely go back to try more items on their menu! It's a great spot for a low key date or to hang with some friends and watch the games!
Top shelf. Everything. Period. Not really much more to say! I give this place 10/10. The burgers are some of the best in all of Chicago.
Ventured to Pierce Tavern (sister restaurant to Fuller House in Hinsdale) for Saturday Lunch. Be sure to utilize the Yelp Waitlist feature so your wait isn't long. We joined about 30-45 minutes ahead of time so when we walked in, we were sat right away. The inside has a rustic and industrial aesthetic with wood finishes, edison bulbs featured, an antler chandelier upon entry, and metal accents. The "neighborhood hideaway" phrase carries through as it feels cozy yet elevated. We started with the Merchant Man and Smoke Break. Our server swapped out the molasses bitters for tobacco bitters on the Merchant Man so it wasn't overly sweet which was an adjustment I appreciated! The Smoke Break was smokey from the mezcal but well balanced and looked cool! Our appetizer was the wood fire pretzel twists. Sauces included were pimento cheese, queso, and honey mustard. I normally skip the honey mustard but theirs is delicious! A sweet start with the mustard bite on the tail end. The queso tasted a bit like a cream soup but was still good. Our favorite and first to go was the pimento cheese dip! Our mains were the West Coast Burger (their take on an In-and-Out style burger) and BLTA. The BLTA was messy with the egg add so be prepared! Fries have a great crisp and get the homemade ranch to dip! The burger was filling, meat was juicy, brioche bun was a nice touch. Great add to downtown Downers Grove and a must to try when in the area!
Went to Pierce Tavern last Sunday for a late lunch/early dinner. The place was packed but we were able to get a high top in the bar area. We've been to this restaurant a number of times and never had a bad experience. Our server was Jazz. Friendly, engaging and she provided good service. We started with the wood fired pretzel twist. A large pretzel served with dipping sauces - pimento cheese, cheesy queso and honey mustard. The queso was not good, but we enjoyed the other two sauces. My husband ordered Benny's birria tacos with elote for his meal. Three braised brisket tacos with cheddar and chihuahua cheeses, pico de gallo and jalapeño crema. He loved them. I had the ahi tuna bowl with sticky rice, pickled veggies, edamame and avocado. The spicy mayo was too spicy for me. I'm happy Jazz recommended to put it on the side. My bowl was a generous portion and the tuna was so fresh. There are so many good picks on the menu. Try the brisket grilled cheese. It's insanely good. I definitely recommend Pierce for its good food and cocktails.
The ambiance is great! The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. My husband loved his burger. I got the smoked meats. Unfortunately the brisket was really fatty and usually I like some fat in the brisket, but this was almost completely fat. We are open to trying it again because the overall experience was good! I just won't order the mixed meats this time!
We stopped in for lunch on a school holiday, it was pretty busy for a Monday afternoon. The hostess and our waitress were great! The waitress forgot a few things, and dropped off another table's drinks, but was very pleasant. The food was decent, as usual. I had the schnitzel sandwich and I really liked it! I wouldn't have thought to add apples to a sandwich, but it was delicious. I ordered a side of onion rings instead of fries, but the waitress forgot them. She eventually brought an order of onion rings after I reminded her twice, and charged $7 for them instead of making them the side to my sandwich. I wouldn't order onion rings again, they're really not great. My friend had a burger and that was a good, standard burger. It was cooked well and she enjoyed it. Our kids had chicken sandwiches, and they all really enjoyed them as well. My daughter says the ranch is scrumptious, and the fries are awesome as well.
Vibrant, upbeat, delicious, delightful, and a very decent beer selection here! These are some of my favorite good adjectives and they all fit my inaugural outing to this popular eatery in downtown Downers Grove. Our party of 3 got here at 5:15pm on a Wednesday and we got the last open table in the main dining room by the entrance. No reservations taken unless your party is 6 or more, fyi. There's another small dining room with a row of tables on the back side of the bar that was still wide open though as were all the outside patio tables, but they all filled up by about 6pm. So, yes, business is still bustling here and deservedly so from my experience. Our beer-geek threesome had the following for food as we did our usual catching up. It was all tip-top good including the fries. - appetizers of a pretzel ($8) and clock shadow cheese curds ($12, and the dip has a kick btw) - tavern burger with fries, $16 (mine) - Southwest Philly cheesesteak, $16 - Buffalo chicken sandwich with fries, $17 They have a big and diverse food menu and this place is more of a restaurant than a brewpub. But it's also still a tavern and they have a very good and diverse beer list as well. We each had a couple of beers and for a change of pace finished off the night with a Buffalo Trace old fashioned. I had: - Solemn Oath Small Wave hazy IPA (6.5% ABV), $8 - Three Brewing 6 Three 0 New England IPA (6.0% ABV), $8 - Buffalo Trace old fashioned, $11 My 'ol colleagues also had between them and for the record: - Hop Butcher Emits Shower of Sparks DIPA (7.5% ABV), $10 - Noon Whistle Hop Prism Blue IPA (7.3% ABV), $7 - Around the Bend Vera cream ale (5.0% ABV), $7 - Goldfinger Brewing lager (5.2% ABV), $7 - Buffalo Trace old fashioned's, $11 x two Dawn was our attentive and capable server. As an aside we were all impressed with her detailed knowledge of how they make their old fashioned's here too. Before ordering them, we asked her about the sugar source and she knew it was a yes on syrup and a no on carbonated soda. Their Buffalo Trace old fashioned's are on the sweeter side but still very delectable and also a good deal at $11. There is free street parking but it is limited in this prime and busy commercial strip. There is also a public garage a couple of blocks away that is also free after 3pm and $3 before 3pm. My colleague also informed us that parking at the nearby Metra station lot is also free after 6pm. Thank you Pierce Tavern for a wonderful and delicious evening and I surely do hope to return some day.
